Quarter of Brazil mobile phone market is illegal handsets

Irregular mobile phone sales in Brazil reached 10.9 million units in 2023, representing 25 percent of the total market, according to Luiz Claudio Carneiro, 1st vice-president of industry group Abinee and director of the Mobile Devices area. He pointed out that the entire ICT sector suffers from smuggling, not just final goods but also components. According to Carneiro, despite border seizures, the ease of online sales via marketplaces fuels the irregular market.
